Taipei Game Show 2018 was held for five days from January 25th to January 30th. On January 27th, during the Taipei Game Show, a meeting was held between Professor Furuichi of Nihon University and Mr. Wu, CEO of the Taipei Computer Association.
Professor Furuichi is a leading expert on serious game research in Japan. We focus on the social nature of games, such as holding serious game jams on a regular basis, and continue to actively work on using games to solve social problems and apply them to education.

Nihon University and Taipei already have exchanges through study abroad programs, but the theme of the meeting was whether this can be further promoted and what kind of cooperative relationship is possible at both the university and industry levels.
From Professor Furuichi,
“In Japan, we are promoting the spread of serious games and international student exchange through the implementation of serious game jams.In order to promote Japan-Taiwan exchange in such places, for example, we hold awards at the Taipei Game Show. I think it would be a good idea if Taiwanese students could participate in Japan’s Serious Game Jam after doing so.”
“How about the development team of Serious Game Jam held in Japan exhibit a booth at Taipei Game Show?”
Specific proposals were made.
Mr. Wu agreed to positively promote exchanges between the Japanese and Taiwanese game industries.
“What do you think should be done to get more Taiwanese game developers to participate in the Tokyo Game Show?”
Opinions were solicited for promoting exchanges in the Japan-Taiwanese game industry

Mr. Sumita of Japanese publisher Polaris He talked about his hopes for promoting Japan-Taiwan exchange, hoping that it would be an opportunity for that to happen.
Although we are gradually starting to see success stories of Japanese game developers in Taiwan, the reality is that we are still groping for cooperation.
The reason why full-fledged Japan-Taiwan cooperation has not progressed is that it is difficult for Japanese developers to see the development of the Taiwanese market and, beyond that, the mainland Chinese market. Even though the momentum is increasing, there are times when it is not being able to make its presence felt.
Japan and Taiwan are very close both culturally and geographically. The meeting is expected to promote exchanges in the game industry in the future.
