I completed the sandbox action game “Agartha-S” that can be played on Switch, so I wrote my impressions.
What kind of game?
The genre is sandbox action. I bought this because I was attracted to the pixel art. By the way, Agartha is said to be an “underground city, a utopia” in occult legend.
Make full use of your character’s abilities to remove and sometimes utilize natural obstacles such as water, soil, rocks, and lava as you aim for the exit.
For example, there are scenes where natural phenomena are used, such as turning water into ice with an ice beam, or setting oil on fire to ignite it.
Although the story is not drawn in the game, hints along the way somehow indicate the purpose and route, so I never got lost.
A stage with a boss. The enlarged pixel art has a great impact.
Petit strategy information
The items you pick up are used to unlock characters. Some stages will be difficult without a specific character, so let’s unlock them in order from the top.
The grid-shaped stage map shows the connections between each stage, and you can use this as a hint to find the secret exit.
If the screen is difficult to see due to effects, press the minus button.
You can turn off effects. This makes it easier to grasp objects.
Please try challenging the infinite proliferation boss with a character called Alchemist. Let’s turn the scaffolding into rock and the boss into steam. It took a lot of effort, so I’ll write it down.
The idea is nice though
The idea of making it into an action game is great, and I enjoyed the well-thought-out structure and balance, but I’ll also write about what I felt was a little disappointing.
Since the terrain was constantly changing, I was often irritated by the hit detection. Characters and items are small and visibility is poor.
The UI also had some quirks, and replaying after making a mistake was especially troublesome. I found the operations, including the actions, stressful.
Although I have made some complaints, none of them are enough to detract from the fun of the game. If you’re interested at first glance, please give it a try.
