Tokyo Sandbox has been postponed due to circumstances on the organizer’s side. There were some changes in the management structure, and there were concerns about whether it would be a success as an exhibition, but once we opened the lid, it was a great success, and it can be said that it has shown its presence as a long-established indie game event that has been going on since 2015.
Perhaps due to the change in schedule, there were fewer exhibitors and media from overseas, which is one of Tokyo Sandbox’s strengths, and I hope to see a comeback in that regard next year.
Well, Tokyo Sandbox has been holding the event in a slightly smaller venue since last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but this year it was so successful that the venue felt small. In this article, I would like to introduce some of the titles that were on display that caught my attention.
Competitive crossword limited to 3 letters
A crossword game limited to 3-letter words. It may look plain, but it’s actually quite interesting. A great work that will entertain both adults and children!

Mr. Elevator
Mr. Hamada, who has worked on unique games that fuse real life and games, such as Madrika Real Estate, will create an escape game next. You can feel the unique atmosphere from the game screen with strong colors.
It seems that a demo version was released at the SteamNext festival, but it is now closed to the public, so it was a valuable opportunity to try it out at Tokyo Sandbox.
CultureHouse
A game where you spend seven days over the weekend inside a beautiful building. I feel like I’ve become a regular at indie game exhibitions, and each time I exhibit, development progresses little by little, and I’m still waiting for it to be completed.
The gameplay part is still to come, so I’m looking forward to it.

CASSETTE BOY
I thought it was a retro 2D RPG similar to the Game Boy, but it turned out to be a edgy game with puzzle elements like rotating the map!
You can enjoy nostalgia and novelty at the same time.

Nyaito Museum
A puzzle game where you play as a cute cat security guard and fight against thieves. You can enjoy a cute picture book-like world and puzzles that are pleasant to touch.
It has already been released on iOS, and will be released on Android soon.

From now on, you are a DUNGEON MASTER.
“Kimidan”, which has already gained many users on iOS and Android, is a defense game where you summon monsters and protect dungeons. The pixel art and yellow worldview are cute!

Super tax increase city
A roguelite game where you create a city while enduring tax increases. Let’s do our best and live our lives in the game with the slogan “How to survive the tax increase”, which is a phrase that we often hear.

Zangetsu Chain Palace
If I made the Steam version’s difficulty higher, I’d get a lot of complaints and I wouldn’t be able to accept it, so I secretly developed an update! The Zangetsu Chain Palace. The developer is Frog Panda, who is well-known for their cute games, but Zangetsu is super hard. There have been no complaints about the Switch version, so I’d like people to play that version now. I would also like to try the Steam version.

CYBORG-PROTOTYPE
A game that is a combination of a 3D game and a roguelite. You might think it’s a game that follows trends, but it’s 10 times more elaborate than you might imagine. You will strengthen your machine while considering the durability and level of each part, but the construction is amazing!

There were many other good games, so if you are interested, please check out the title information on the official website.
