I wrote my impressions after completing the adventure RPG “Meg and the Beast” that can be played on Nintendo Switch. Was he really able to cry?
What kind of game?
“When a girl cries, the world ends – A story about Meg, a human girl who wanders into the demon world, and Roy, the monster who protects her. This is an adventure RPG drawn with simple pixel art and beautiful sounds. ”
A picture book-like game where you control Roy and progress through the story from a third-person perspective. The target age group is probably the same as UNDERTALE.
Battles are just an accent to the story, and you don’t have to fight a lot to raise your level like in a so-called RPG.
Just specify the movement on the map. It’s easy to see where you should go next because it’s marked.
There are almost no exploration elements, and the game focuses on the story. Thanks to this, I was able to progress quickly and complete the game in a few hours.
Good game elements
The battle where you fight while babysitting the girl Meg to keep her from crying was innovative. You will attack your opponent while soothing them with the toys you have obtained.
In the second half, special elements are added, increasing the fun of the game. I also liked that the rules were simple and easy to understand.
There were also unique mini-games on stage, so I never got bored.
Music is very nice
This game became a hot topic when it was released because the BGM was so good. Reo Uratani, who was in charge of the music for Monster Hunter and other games, apparently made it using junk based on the world of the game, and for better or worse, it surpasses the quality of the game.
Official website of the soundtrack It’s also fun, so please check it out.
I couldn’t cry
Unfortunately, I couldn’t cry. I think the reason is simple: it’s long past the target age. As we get older, we lose our sensitivity, which is a shame. I thought, oh, this is a story I’ve seen somewhere.
When I was a kid, Mother and Dragon Quest 3 would bring me to tears, but I don’t think I’ll feel the same way if I play them now.UNDERTALEIt didn’t resonate as well as people thought.
However, something I’ve been thinking about lately is that it may take a lot of time to resonate more deeply with people.
For example, if The Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy were games that could be easily completed in a few hours, I wouldn’t be very impressed. I feel that by making the players walk, fight, and waste time, the players will expand their thoughts on their own. (How to say it)
There are many games that impress you even after just a few hours of play, but I think that’s because they have a special way of presenting the game, rather than just being casually depicted in an RPG format.
But you might cry. It’s a really wonderful story, so please give it a try.
